PURPOSE:To completely remove remaining burr by placing one detecting bar so as to be brought into contact with the a cast or forged surface in the vicinity of a burr and the other detecting bar which is related to said detecting bar so as to be brought into contact with a ground face, and detecting the height of said remaining burr integrally with a grinding unit, and advancing said grinding unit by the detected remaining quantity. CONSTITUTION:By setting a detecting bar K with its end being projected by A out of the front face G' of a grinding wheel G, the whole frame F is advanced while counting a pulse quantity corresponding to a defined advancing quantity A, and stopped when the counting is completed. This position is the face on which a burr B is produced and grinding is carried out by retracting only the detecting bar K. Since there is a slight difference in height which is necessary for correcting the wear of a grinding wheel between the ends of the detecting bar L and annular detecting bar C of an automatic grinding-wheel wear correcting device H, when the grinding wheel G is worn causing the height alpha of the remaining burr B'' to exceed an allowable range, one of the bars is brought into contact with a cast face B' while the other is brought into contact with the burr B''. And, the grinding wheel alone is moved by the amount of the gap a of the difference between the ends by means of an electric signal, completing the correction. Accordingly, the remaining burr which is produced due to the wear of the grinding wheel G can be completely removed.
