Oils are dewaxed by a process involving cooling followed by flotation in which the cooling is effected by injecting an immiscible liquid of greater specific gravity than the oil and cooled to below the flotation temperature, preferably at least 10 DEG C. below. Suitable liquids are aqueous solutions of calcium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, alcohol, acetone, furfural, glycerol or ethylene glycol and may be recycled.
