PURPOSE:To make it possible to control the position of the leading end of a wire relative to the bottom plate of a wind-up machine by compensating the rotating angle of the wind up machine at the initiating point of wind up having been previously set, in accordance with the amount of slippage of the leading end of the wire on one side surface of the wind-up machine. CONSTITUTION:A computing and processing machine 19 delivers a compensating signal to a motor control device 17 so that the rotating angle of a wind up machine 12 at the time when a wire 1 makes contact with the outer wall 8 of the wind-up machine 2, is equal to a previously set rotating angle. Further, the rotating angle of the wind-up machine 12 at the time when the leading end of the wire makes contact with the outer wall 8 of the wind-up machine is controlled. The above-mentioned control steps are repeated during such a period that the leading end of the wire reaches the wind-up machine 2 after it passes over a detector 142. Thus, the rotating angle of the wind-up machine 12 is more precisely set to the set value when the leading end of the wire makes contact with the outer wall 8 of the wind-up machine. Accordingly, it is possible to control the position of the leading end of the wire relative to the bottom plate 4 of the wind-up machine.
