PURPOSE:To permit easy and inexpensive formation of crack arrester steel materials by forming grooves to a base metal in the transverse direction thereof and subjecting the base metal to multi-layer welding of a specified material, then rolling the base metal under heating. CONSTITUTION:A thick steel plate consisting, by base metal component %, of 0.09 C, 0.30 Si, 1.50 Mn, 0.01 P, 0.001 S, 0.30 Nb, 0.10 V, and 0.02 Ti is subjected to the edge prepn. shown in the figure. The steel plate is then subjected to the multi-layer welding by using a welding material consisting, by deposited metal component %, 0.05 C, 0.10 Si, 0.54 Mn, 3.50 Ni, and 0.025 Ti and thereafter, the steel plate is heated to 1,100 deg.C and is rolled to 16.5mm steel plate. A crack divides to the right and left at the point of a weld zone (discontinuous part) 11 and attenuates, if double loads of tensile stress sigma=20kg/mm<2> and tensile load P=40 tons are applied thereon after a slit 21 is formed thereto. As a result, the crack arrester steel materials are easily and inexpensively formed. |
