PURPOSE:To enable real-time and equivalent-time random sampling by providing a reference oscillator which shifts the phase of a trigger signal and performing the sampling with a signal relevant to the output of this reference oscillator. CONSTITUTION:An input signal A is inputted to a trigger signal generator 22 to generate the trigger signal, which is inputted to a trigger controller 23. The output signal of the reference oscillator 20 is shifted in phase with a phase shifting signal B from this controller 23. A signal B, on the other hand, is inputted to a sampling gate 25 and the signal A is sampled at its timing and AD- converted 26. The output of the reference oscillator 20 and the trigger signal of the generator 22 are inputted to a time difference measuring means 24 to measure the time difference between this trigger signal and the output of the reference oscillator 20. Then, the outputs of the AD converter 26 and measuring means 24 are inputted to a display means 27 to determine and display the position of the waveform of the sampling signal on the time base.
