PURPOSE:To obtain a bright display, excellent contrast, and a wide visual field by using two color polarizers which are so laminated that their absorption spectra are different from each other and the directions of their axes of absorption intersects orthogonally with each other, one neutral polarizer, and a guest- host liquid crystal layer. CONSTITUTION:A 1st liquid crystal layer 17 uses two pieces of color polarizers 201-203 and 211-213 which are so laminated that their absorption spectra are different from each other and their absorption axis directions intersects orthogonally with each other and 2/3 of the whole contributes to display operation even at the time of a monochromatic display of red, green, or yellow. A 2nd liquid crystal layer 18 utilizes a guest-host mode, so a black display can be possible and only one neutral polarizer 27 is needed, thereby expanding the visual field angle. |
