PURPOSE:To shorten the starting time of a disk device in an electronic equipment using the disk device as an external storage device by controlling the disk device from the body side only when the connected disk device is not an automatic restarting type is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic disk is inserted into a magnetic disk device 2, a cassette loading switch 21 is driven and a motor control circuit 22 rotates a motor 23. The rotating state of the motor 23 is detected by a current detecting circuit 13 in a body control part 1. The control part 1 judges whether the disk device 2 is an automatic restarting system or not on the basis of an output from the circuit 13. Only when the device 2 is not the automatic restarting type is judged, the control part 1 controls the restart of the disk device 2, restart control is not executed in case of the automatic restart type. Thus, the starting time of the disk device can be shortened.
