CONVERTING ELEMENT FOR OPTICAL FIBER DIRECTION

PURPOSE:To make the whole of a converting element extremely small by changing the propagation direction of light in a fiber for input to a fiber for output installed in an optional direction to the fiber for input without leaking the light out. CONSTITUTION:The tip surface of a 1st optical fiber 1 is cut at a specific angle alpha and the tip surface of a 2nd optical fiber 2 is cut at the same angle alphaas the tip cutting angle of the 1st optical fiber 1; and the cut tip end surfaces of the 1st optical fiber 1 and 2nd optical fiber 2 are connected so that the center axes cross each other at one point. Then the connected tip part is cut in a plane 5 which is perpendicular to the connection surface 4 and crosses the center axis, and a material 6 for reflection is installed on the cut surface. The light propagated in the 1st optical fiber 1 can be propagated while changed in direction to the 2nd optical fiber 2 installed in the optional direction without being emitted out. Consequently, the whole body is made extremely small.
