Method for correctly seaming the ends of a can (tin) body of right-circular or polygonal or oblong, constant or variable cross-section with a view to the manufacture of metal containers or packages closed by at least one cap crimped to the said body, characterised in that a "reference" can (tin) body 1 is produced by expansion, in that the deformation of the top 1a and bottom 1b edges of the said body 1 are determined, in that the deformation curves 5/6 of the said edges are traced and in that material deficiency is compensated for by tracing a complementary curve 7/9 which is symmetric with the said deformation curve 5/6 with respect to lines 8/10 parallel to the abscissa line X X' and passing through the maximum ordinates Ymax and Y'max of the deformation curves so as to obtain, during the shaping by expansion of the packaged body, top 1a and bottom 1b edges which are straight and which lie in planes which are parallel and perpendicular to the axis of the said body. <IMAGE>
