PURPOSE:To obtain fiber Raman laser having new wavelength by using optical fiber comprising a core consisting of SiO2 glass doped at least with Zr. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 glass contg. at least Zr to be used for a core of optical fiber for fiber Raman laser is produced after gelling Si alkoxide or a sol obtd. by the hydrolysis of Si alkoxide, together with Zr alkoxide, as starting material, forming a porous gel body by drying, then vitrifying to transparent glass by treating at high temp. while dehydrating with a chlorine-based dehydrating agent. Optical fiber constituted of a core comprising glass produced by doping quartz glass with Zr is used for the optical fiber for fiber Raman laser. By this constitution, laser light having wavelength different from conventional laser light is generated utilizing a novel peak of scattering due to Raman effect caused by the doped Zr. |
