PURPOSE:To improve the inserting and ejecting procedure of a card by setting up an entering position of a carrying mechanism at the time of inserting a card-like recording carrier differently from a stopping position at the time of ejecting the carrier. CONSTITUTION:At the time of inserting a card, the existence of the optical card 1 is detected by card sensor 22a, 22b, a motor 8, a gear 9 and spur gears 10a, 10b are rotate by a 'CARD EXIST' signal and a feeding roll 3b fixed on a shaft 23b of the spur gear 10b allows the card 1 to enter. When the card 1 is inserted with a hand by length l1, the card 1 is automatically entered into the device and the card 1 is reciprocated by the feeding roll 17 on the basis of the positive/reverse rotation of a motor 18 to record/reproduce data by means of an optical head 16. At the time of ejecting the card 1, a pinion gear 9 is reversed by the motor 8, the spur gear 10a is reversed and a plate member is abutted upon a stopper 15, and stopped. As a result, rotating power is inter rupted by the spur gear 10b and the card 1 is carried up to a position where a feeding roll 3a is allowed to carry the card, and automatically stopped on a position where a card inserting end port 2 is superposed to the end of the card 1.
