The invention relates to the use of the periscope principle adapted to the examination of the hull and of the submerged parts of a low-tonnage boat afloat. It comprises two tubes which can slide, one in the other, with a sealed ring enabling them to be locked in a desired position. The lower tube includes a 90 DEG bend (elbow) containing a mirror at 45 DEG and it is closed by a sealed lens at its end. The upper tube includes an adjustable optical device at its top end, for focusing the image. A support enables an electric torch lamp to be fixed on the side of the horizontal part of the apparatus for use at night or in overcast weather. <IMAGE>
