This covering is constituted on the basis of a flexible laminar structure 1 composed of one or more thin films of non-porous and water-resistant material, preferably a plastic substance, these films being or not being associated with a glue, being transparent or opaque and possibly printed in different colours or patterns, this laminar structure 1 having sufficient dimensional characteristics to fully accommodate the bottom and the side wall of the container 3, being originally of a substantially rectangular shape in order to allow subsequently, with the help of a mould, the formation of a three-dimensional body, like a tray, whose edges are formed by folding and pleating the material, the faces of the tray having a folding line 6 close to the plane of the edge of the container 3 and parallel to it, a part of the edge projecting outwards from this line 6 along a rim 7 of uniform width, this rim 7 forming, in the corners of the covering 1, points 8 to which the pleating of the material 1 contribute and which project towards the outside along the bisecting lines of the corners of the tray. <IMAGE>
