The cooker according to the invention is essentially characterised in that it includes a hob 1 comprising heating surfaces 2-5 on which pans with handles may be placed, a protective plate 8, and means 9 for mounting the plate so that it can pivot about a rotation axis 10 parallel to the general plane of the hob and in such a way that it can assume at least two positions, a first position P1 in which the plate is located substantially in a plane perpendicular to that of the hob and on the front edge 13 of the latter, the second position being the one in which the place is located above the hob in such a way that at least one pan can pass between the hob and the plate. <IMAGE>
