PURPOSE:To print in an arbitrary printing format independent of a program in a higher rank device, by providing an operation panel capable of controlling a printing head transverse carrying motor and a platen rotating motor, and controlling the start/halt of printing. CONSTITUTION:By receiving a transmit data from the higher rank device 15, a control circuit 2 transmits the printing data to a drive circuit 3 to start printing only after a printing switch 13 on an operation panel 1 is pressed. When a halt of printing is required, the printing switch 13 is again pressed. To set a start position for a next printing after the halt; a printing head transverse carrying motor 4 is controlled by switches 10, 12 to travel a head longitudinally, a platen rotating motor 5 is controlled by switches 9, 11 to feed printing paper vertically. Thereafter, the printing switch 13 is pressed for restarting printing. The above action is repeated. In this manner, by operating the switches on the panel 1, a printing can be carried out on a printer in an arbitrary format independent of the transmit data from the higher rank device 15.
