A fuel injection device, especially for diesel internal combustion engines with direct fuel injection, is described, which has a high pressure piston pump (1) driven by the internal combustion engine, the pump piston (2) of which in a pump working chamber (5) generates an injection pressure which can be fed to an injection nozzle by way of a line system (6, 7). In order to achieve an increase of the injection pressure varying in particular as a function of the speed of the internal combustion engine and hence a variable start of injection, it is proposed that a control piston arrangement (15), adjustable by the injection pressure against the action of springs (21, 24) be provided. In this case the said control piston arrangement has a first control piston (18) directly acted upon by the injection pressure and a second control piston (19) coupled to the former with the insertion of a compression spring (24), which latter piston interacts with the first control piston to form a valve (27, 28), which is designed to close a restriction bore (29) arranged between a pressure admission chamber (33) to which the injection pressure is admitted and an outlet chamber (22, 30). <IMAGE>
