Safety device for a tyre changing machine

A safety device is proposed for a tyre changing machine which comprises a support table for a rim/tyre arrangement and a tyre inflation system. A pillar with a quick-release mechanism is provided to permit engagement with and release from the support table. The pillar has a thread with a steep pitch and receives a retaining truncated cone with a thread. The pillar engages with the table via a rim-centre opening and the retaining truncated cone can be moved axially in order to engage the edges of the rim opening. By engaging the pillar with the table, an air locking mechanism is activated which switches on the tyre inflation system. The truncated cone is secured to the pillar by means of a structure at each end of the said pillar.
