Compounds of formula (I), wherein X represents =O or H(α)OH(β), and Y represents H(α) or OH(α), which are prepared by bringing 4-pregnene-3,20-dione into contact with microorganisms belonging to the genus Acremonium. These compounds possess an activity of inducing cell differentiation.
