PURPOSE:To impart antibacterial effect to active carbon, by allowing active carbon to be used for dechlorination of drinking water to absorb water after immersing copper or copper alloy therein. CONSTITUTION:After immersing lumps, wire, or chips of copper or copper alloy having aged surface in water, the water is absorbed in active carbon by charging the active into the water. As the result, antibacterial effect is imparted to the active carbon itself, and propagation of bacteria is inhibited during the stage of operation of a process using the active carbon, also.
