PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for cutting a power manually by an operator and to prevent a waste of power and an aging of component parts from being generated, by providing a switch circuit for turning ON/OFF a switch according to the measured time in a timer circuit and the presence of received data from a host device. CONSTITUTION:When a fixed time elapses without receiving a reset signal from a data receive control part 1, a timer circuit 4 is automatically reset. Moreover, the receive control part 1 outputs a reset signal to a switch circuit 5 only when the timer circuit 4 is in reset states and all the printing is completed. The switch circuit 5 turns OFF a switch for connecting a power supply 6 with a printing control part 2. At this time, however, the control part 1 is in power making states, thus still storing the internal conditions of a printer. When again receiving data from a host device, the control part 1 outputs a set signal to the switch circuit 5 and, thereby, the switch circuit 5 turns ON a switch disposed between the printing control part 2 and a printing part, and the power supply. In this manner, the need for the operation by an operator is eliminated, an unnecessary power can be saved, and an aging of component parts can be retarded.
