In a swirl nozzle for atomising a liquid, with a swirl space into which feed channels for the liquid enter in a manner laterally offset with respect to the centre axis of the swirl space, with a nozzle bore arranged on the centre axis of the swirl space and with a return bore, for a portion of the liquid, which is opposite the nozzle bore and emerges from the swirl space along the centre axis thereof, in order to prevent foaming in the returning liquid, it is proposed that the return bore enters into a deflector space which is flared in the radial direction and which has on the side opposite the return bore a deflector surface (baffle) directing the flow in the return bore radially outwards, and that the deflector space is connected to return channels remote from the centre axis of the swirl space.
