The invention relates to a moisture sensor for capacitively measuring the soil moisture in planted areas and for controlling automatic irrigation equipment. The sensor comprises a plastic tube in which an annular capacitor is mounted and which has a metallic earthed tip on one of its sides. The evaluation circuits are housed in a casing which is permanently connected to the tube. The tube and the casing are filled with casting resin.
