A method for polishing bases of sharp-edged mould chambers in dies, in particular injection-moulding dies of steel, according to which a polishing medium is reciprocated on a path. The technical problem is to provide a polishing method which permits clean and uniform working even of sharp corners and edges in mould recesses. The path is generated by superimposing a reciprocating linear movement and a reciprocating transverse movement. The transverse movement is flexibly guided. This results in an elliptical path which is deformed in the direction of the longitudinal axis at the ends into points.
