In known ferrofluid seals with two pole discs and permanent magnets in between them, leakages of ferrofluid occur and, in the end, these lead to the failure of the seal, especially in arrangements with a vertical shaft. To prevent the escape of ferrofluid, at least the internal bore (15, 16) of one of the pole discs (5, 6) is subjected to rotary microfinishing, the edge (17, 18) of the bore remote from the permanent magnet (4) is made sharp-edged, and the associated sealing gap (7, 8) is filled with ferrofluid. <IMAGE>
