In a device for reprocessing oil sludge, in particular the sludge arising in the operation of ships, wherein the sludge is pumped in circulation through a heated vessel which causes water to separate out, the separating-off of water vapour in the vessel is to be improved in order relatively to reduce the dimensions of the vessel. Within the vessel (2), an antechamber (6) is provided in which the oil sludge fed from below is heated to above 100@C by means of a heating coil (5). Next to the antechamber (6), there is a number of alternately inclined dripping sheets (9, 10) over which the oil sludge issuing from the top of the antechamber can flow down in a thin layer. The direct heating of the oil sludge fed and the large surface area of the sludge flowing down over the dripping sheets improve the separation of water vapour and therefore allow smaller vessel dimensions at the same throughput. <IMAGE>
