The invention relates to a car roof tent which, both during transportation and after it has been unfolded, rests on the roofrack of a passenger estate car and remains firmly connected thereto. During transportation, the tent lies, such that it is protected from weathering, between the base part 4 and the pivot frame 5. After opening and pivoting the frame 5 through 180@, there is formed a plane which is approximately double the width of the passenger estate car 1. The tent can then be erected with a low degree of effort by a simple manipulation of the roof-skin-bearing members 7 and 8, lying in the tub-shaped parts 4 and 5, and unfolding the roofing skin 13. The invention provides tent rollers 9.1 to 9.4, the tarpaulins 14, borne by said rollers, being lowerable and, in this position, forming the bottom part of the tent. <IMAGE>
