A spin-stabilised projectile (1) has on its envelope (2) a guiding band (3) provided with grooves (35, 36, 37) to receive the guiding band material that exerts a shearing force towards the rear when the projectile (1) passes through the barrel (4) of a weapon, in such a manner that a spin is transmitted to the projectile by means of annular guiding band zones (31, 32, 33, 34). The diameter (38) of at least one spin-transmitting ring (31, 34) is larger than the diameter (45) of the grooves (42) of the barrel (4) of the weapon. The high radial pressure on the projectile envelope in the area of the guiding bands may cause great radial deformations of the same, especially in the case of thin-walled envelopes, with the result that the guiding band lacks in tightness and the projectile is excessively stressed. In order to eliminate these disadvantages of known guiding bands, it is proposed that the diameter (39) of at least one of the remaining spin-transmitting rings (32, 33) be smaller than the diameter of the grooves (45), but larger than the calibre (44) of the barrel (4) of the weapon. |
