Self-priming hydropneumatic spring strut with internal level control system for motor vehicles

Motor vehicles equipped with conventional spring struts of the said type must cover a long distance following an increase of the vehicle load until the vehicle is again >>pumped up<< to the level position. It is intended that the new spring strut be suitable for creating a level control device by means of which the level position is assumed immediately after increasing the vehicle load. The spring strut is provided with three line connections, of which a first connection opens in an outlet chamber formed at the end of the pump chamber, a second in the working chamber on a level with the neutral position of the damper piston and a third in the low pressure reservoir, the damper piston being dimensioned in such a way that in the neutral position and over the maximum rebound travel the second line connection is closed by the damper piston, whereas it is opened over the compression travel. For controlling the level of a vehicle axle, the spring strut is capable of interacting with an external high pressure accumulator, in that the second line connection is connected directly to the said accumulator and the first line connection by way of a pressure limiting valve. <IMAGE>
