PURPOSE:To enable automatic application of a cover over a pallet, in a pallet transporting device for large object such as steel pipe, by advancing a transporter mounting a cover below a pallet when said object is being carried. CONSTITUTION:One of front or rear end of a transporter 2 is faced with one of front or rear end of a pallet 1, then a supporting cylinder 4 at the end of the transporter 2 is retracted into a frame 2a so as to advance the transporter 2 below the pallet 1. Since a cover 3 having inlet and outlet in front and rear is mounted on the frame 2a, the cover 3 is mounted on a top board 1a when the transporter 2 advances below the pallet 1 and moved on the top board 1a while being guided by a guide rail 5 laid on the top board 1a. Consequently, the cover 3 is applied concentrically over the top board 1a. Then the supporting cylinder 4 is extended over the frame 2a to support the cover 3 and lift the pallet 1 which is carried by means of the transporter 2.
