PURPOSE:To accurately and rapidly inspect the characteristic of a steering apparatus, by a method wherein a dummy car speed signal maximizing a steering ratio is sent out in the same phase and the characteristic of a rear wheel steering angle to that of a front wheel steering angle is compared and collated with a preset fundamental characteristic. CONSTITUTION:A dummy car speed signal bringing a steering phase to the same phase and maximizing a steering ratio is sent out to a controller from a signal send-out means. When a steering wheel is operated in this state to steer front wheels, rear wheel are also steered in the same phase and, therefore, these steering angles are measured. Next, when a graph showing a rear wheel steering angle on a vertical axis and a front wheel steering angle on a horizontal axis is obtained, the steering angles of the rear wheels gradually become smaller and the rear wheels are not steered by predetermined steering angles theta1 (right-hand), theta2 (left-hand) or more. A desired fundamental characteristic is preset with respect to the characteristic of the change in the rear wheel steering angles and a comparing inspection means inspects whether the measured characteristic enters the required range of the fundamental characteristic and the angles theta1, theta2 enter the predetermined range of the fundamental characteristic; when they are out of the fundamental characteristic, a steering characteristic is adjusted so as to be matched with the fundamental characteristic. |
