The cooling device or "diverter" consists of juxtaposed units. Each of the units (4a) comprises a set of modular blocks (21) made of conductive material and resistant to heat, such as graphite. The modular blocks (21) comprise a head part (21a) which has a zone for bearing (24) on the pipes (16) of the diverter and a foot part (21b) which has an assembly opening (26). Means of assembly (28, 29) interact with the openings (26) to immobilise the blocks (21) on the support (20) of the diverter. The means for assembly (28, 29) are provided with blocking and unblocking devices (34) for immobilising or releasing the blocks (21) constituting a row along the means of assembly (28, 29). <IMAGE>
