Anti-skid control apparatus includes fluid pressure modulating control valves 4a, 4b arranged between fluid pressure generating chambers of a tandem master cylinder 1 and respective front wheel brake cylinders 7a, 7b and a control unit 31 receiving the outputs from wheel speed sensors 28a, 28b, 29a, 29b for judging the skid conditions of the front and rear wheels 6a, 6b, 11a, 11b and for generating instructions for controlling the fluid pressure control valves 4a, 4b. The control unit 31 discriminates the frictionally lower one ("low side") of the sides of the road on which the wheels are running, on the basis of the judging results of the skid conditions of the rear and/or front wheels, combines logically the judging result of the skid condition of the one rear wheel running on the "low side" of the road or the judging results of the skid conditions of the rear wheels, with that of the one front wheel running on the "low side" so as to generate an instruction for controlling the first or second fluid pressure control valve 4a, 4b for the corresponding "low side" front wheel, and generates an instruction for controlling the second or first fluid pressure control valve 4a, 4b for the other front wheel, on the basis of the judging result of the skid condition of the other front wheel running on the "high side" independently of those of the rear wheels 11a, 11b. The "low side" can be changed over in accordance with the judging results, or the control unit 31 can reset the "low side" such as when one "low side" wheel is accelerated beyond a set threshold, or rotates in the stable region of frictional coefficient-slip characteristics for longer than a set time.
