At least the first station has an echo canceller (14): simultaneous transmission by the second station takes place only during periods which immediately follow a period of transmission by the first: station alone and are of short duration relative to the rate of change of the echo characteristics of the path, thereby taking advantage of the highly-trained state of the echo canceller during those periods. |
