PURPOSE:To obtain the title sealer composition which is not hazardous from safety and hygienic viewpoints, and has excellent adhesiveness and water resistance and in particular excellent low-temperature stability, by using as its principal constituents a chlorinated polymer, a plasticizer, and a thickening agent comprising a cellulose derivative. CONSTITUTION:This sealer composition is prepared by using as its principal constituents a chlorinated polyolefin (e.g., a chlorinated polyethylene) or modified chlorinated polyolefin (e.g., a maleic modified chlorinated polyethylene), a plasticizer, and a cellulose derivative (e.g., hydroxypropylmethylcellulose), and adding an organic solvent, an emulsifying agent, and water thereto. With conventional emulsified sealers of, e.g., acrylic base and vinyl chloride base, there may be neither fire hazard nor hazard from safety and hygienic viewpoints which may be encountered with solvent- type sealers; however, those conventional emulsified sealers are lacking in adhesiveness, water resistance, and in particular low-temperature stability. A sealer of this invention does not have these defects and has excellent adhesiveness and water resistance and in particular excellent low-temperature stability by virtue of the use of a chlorinated polymer and in addition the use of the above-mentioned thickening agent.
