PURPOSE:To prevent an ink from bleeding upon recording, ensure excellent water resistance of a paper itself and prevent the ink from bleeding even when the paper is wetted after recording, by incorporating a quaternary ammonium salt of a hydroxyalkyl-or alkylcarboxymethyl-cellulose into recording paper. CONSTITUTION:A quaternary ammonium salt of a carboxymethyl cellulose derivative can be produced from an alkali metal salt of a hydroxyalkyl or alkylcarboxymethyl cellulose and any of quaternary ammonium salts. The hydroxyalkyl may be hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl or the like, and the alkyl substituent may be methyl, ethyl or the like. The quaternary ammonium salt may be a lauryltrimethylammonium salt or the like, and the anion constituting the salt is suitably a halide ion such as chloride ion, sulfate ion, nitrate ion, phosphate ion or the like. This recording paper can be produced by providing a paper with a solution of the quaternary ammonium salt of the derivative in an organic solution by spraying, coating, immersion or impregna tion, followed by removing the solvent. |
