PURPOSE:To homogeneously and efficiently obtain the titled enzyme useful as a medicine, by treating an aqueous solution containing copper zinc superoxide dismutase having oxidized thiol groups with a mild reducing agent and purifying the treated substance by ion exchange chromatography. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing copper zinc superoxide dismutase having oxidized thiol groups is initially treated with a mild reducing agent, preferably dithiothreitol, etc., to form thiol groups. The resultant reaction solution is then treated by ion exchange chromatography to simultaneously carry out purification and removal of the excess reducing agent, etc., and afford the aimed enzyme.
