PURPOSE:To prevent glazing of a grinding wheel by installing a means respectively reciprocating plural grinding wheels arranged in the roll axial direction in both the roll axial and vertical directions for on-line grinding of a rolling roll. CONSTITUTION:A grinding wheel holder 10 provided with a grinding wheel 2 is pin connected with a frame 16 through joints 12, 14 and also in pin connected with a hydraulic cylinder 15 set on the frame 16 through joints 13, 14. A receiving part 18 joined to a piston of a hydraulic cylinder 17 under the frame 16 is installed on the frame 16 to move the frame 16 in the roll axial direction. The hydraulic cylinder 15 vertically moves the wheel 2 and oscillates the wheel 2 in an inclined direction in result. In that method, an offset amount between grinding wheels is reduced and an offset variation amount of each grinding wheel is increased, so that variations in roll grinding capability between grinding wheels are reduced and grinding wheel glazing prevention effect is increased to prevent reduction of the grinding capability and to perform the flat roll grinding.
