PURPOSE:To improve the quality of an image, by making the duty ratio of pulses for forming an image through a modulator variable, thereby correcting distortion of the image caused through different incident angle of laser beam to a photosensitive material. CONSTITUTION:In a recorder where laser beam subjected to pulse modulation through modulators 10, 12 scans a photosensitive material 7 and forms a predetermined image, the modulators 10, 12 are constructed such that the duty ratio of pulses is made variable in order to shorten the time width where said modulators 10, 12 are turned ON so as to form images at both end sections rather than at the central section of the photosensitive material 7. With such a laser printer, distortion of image caused through different beam diameters Wa, Wb, Wc of a projected laser beam image can be corrected. In other words, an image Pb in the central section remains as it is at respective points (a), (b), (c), but the images Pa, Pc at both end sections are shrunk in the scanning direction such that W1=W2=W3, whereby distortion of image can be prevented.
