PURPOSE:To enlarge the degree of freedom in a shifting characteristic, by setting each shift speed at both upper and lower limits where gear-shifting is allowed from the existing car speed detected and the existing throttle valve opening, and determining the next shift speed on the basis of the existing shift speed from these shift speed between both these upper and lower limits. CONSTITUTION:Both allowable maximum and minimum shift speeds are set on the basis of the existing car speed detected by a car speed sensor and the existing throttle valve opening and at least one shift speed, where gear-shifting is allowable, is specified. And, one speed selected on the basis of the existing shift speed is set down to the next shift speed from within the range of this specified shift speed. Therefore, a shift speed, of which gear-shifting to be specified by the existing car speed and the existing throttle valve opening is allowed, is adjusted whereby a shifting characteristic can be optionally set up, thus the degree of large freedom for determination of the shifting characteristic is securable. And, since the shift speed to be allowed is also adjustable when an opening characteristic of a car speed throttle valve at shift-up and shift-down is changed, large memory capacity is no longer required in a storage device.
