PURPOSE:To prepare the title catalyst with good reproducibility, by preparing a basic catalyst by baking metal oxide containing Sb, an element selected from Fe, Co or the like and silica and impregnating the same with a V-compound- containing solution prepared so that impregnated V and Sb in the basic catalyst become a specific atomic ratio and baking the impregnated basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A metal oxide composition containing Sb, at least one element selected from a group consisting of Fe, Co, Ni, U, Cr, Cu, Ti, Tn and Ce and silica as essential components is baked at 500-950 deg.C to prepare a basic catalyst. Subsequently, the basic catalyst is impregnated with a V-compound-containing solution prepared so that a ratio V/Sb (atomic ratio) of impregnated V- component amount of the Sb-component amount in the basic catalyst is 0.005-5 and the impregnated catalyst is dried and baked at 300-800 deg.C to obtain a V and S-containing oxide catalyst. This catalyst is good in both activity and physical properties and can be prepared with good reproducibility. |
