PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance free from disagreeable smell, in high purity, by adding an acidic compound, etc., to the titled substance containing impurities, subjecting a part of the impurities to treatments such as condensation, distilling the substance after washing with water, heat-treating the product in the presence of acid clay and contacting with activated carbon. CONSTITUTION:Hexamethyldisiloxane containing large amounts of impurities such as organic solvents, trimethylsilanol, trimethylmethoxysilane, etc., is added with an acidic compound (e.g. sodium hydroxide, organic amine, etc.) and treated at room temperature or under heating to effect the condensation or hydrolytic condensation of a part of the impurities. The treated substance is washed with water and distilled. The obtained hexamethyldisiloxane is heat-treated in the presence of acid clay and made to contact with activated carbon to obtain the purified product.
