摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent any shock due to a sudden engine brake from occurring, by constituting an automatic transmission so as to establish such a shift speed that is one speed higher than this shift speed under the specified condition when it is changed over to a low speed holding range, establishing this shift speed of at least two low speeds, from the maximum speed. CONSTITUTION:When an accelerator pedal is restored to reduce the speed during high speed running at the maximum speed step G4 in an automatic shift range, while transferred to a low speed holding range, it is not shifted down to a first shift speed G3 directly, and shifted down to a second shift speed G3 one speed higher than the former first. With this constitution, any shock due to a sudden engine brake is prevented from occurring, and afterward, if sufficient deceleration is carried out, it is held by the second shift speed G3, whereby the sufficient engine brake is not secured at the second shift speed G3 on a downhill or the like, so that it is shifted down to the first speed G2 first when deceleration value is less than the setting value.
