The present invention relates to a support 1 for a wall opening, made from metal sheet and placed above an opening 2 located in brick masonry 3. In order to avoid the necessity of combining the wall-opening support 1 with reinforcing bars in the horizontal joints between the masonry layers of the finished wall located above the opening 2, the support 1 is made from non-oxidisable acid-resistant metal sheet and its two ends 8 are folded up. Each of the edges of the ends is placed in the joint between two bricks 7, 3 of the first layer laid above the opening and this space is filled with mortar. The two ends of the support 1 are thus anchored into the masonry; the support 1, the bricks and the mortar joints act in a combined fashion and as a result the support 1 of the opening 2 of the wall serves not only as a masonry template which remains in place, as a water-draining means and as a covering for the lower face of the masonry, but also as a structural element in the masonry beam located above the opening 2 of the wall, absorbing stresses. <IMAGE> |
