PURPOSE:To expel particularly cerambycids, scarabaeoids, etc., by cultivating a microorganism for infecting insect pests, e.g. molds, or spores thereof, etc., on a cultivation carrier to provide an expelling tool for the insect pests and placing the resultant tool on trees for expelling insect pests therefrom, etc. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism for infecting insects pests or spores thereof or both are cultivated in a cultivation carrier, e.g. foam matrix or peptide matrix, having culture medium components to provide an expelling tool for insect pests and the tool is placed on trees, etc., to expel the insect pests. Bauveria tenella, Bauveria bassiana, Metarrhizinium anisopliae, etc., are cited as the microorganism for infecting the inset pests. A hydrophilic polymer may be contained in the foam matrix for improving water holding properties. The above-mentioned tool is placed on trees by providing holes for inserting trunks or branches in the cultivation tool, engaging with the trees using nail-like materials, hanging with hanging tools, bonding or other methods.
