摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the tilt angle of the ferroelectric liquid crystal in non- spiral structure to obtain bistability and to prevent generation of flickering on an image screen at the time of multiplexing driving by using aliphat. polyimide for orientation control films. CONSTITUTION:Alicyclic polyimide is used as the orientation control film in orientation control of the ferroelectric liquid crystal element. Namely, this liquid crystal element is provided with a pair of parallel disposed upper substrate 11a and lower substrate 11b and transparent electrodes 12a and 12b wired to the respective substrates and is disposed with the orientation control films 14a and 14b respectively formed of the aliphat. polyimide on the substrates 11a and 11b. The aliphat. polyimide is preferably the polyimide resin film having the structural unit expressed by the formula. The ferroelectric liquid crystal with which the increased tilt angle is obtainable and which has the uniform orientation state is thereby obtd.; in addition, the uniform orientation state is stably maintained for a long period of time.
