PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a costly and intricate conveyor for an information recording medium for the purpose of coating a protective coat and to prevent the thermal damage of the medium by using a metallic film as the protective coat on a reflection film or using the metallic film which serves also as a reflection film. CONSTITUTION:Al of 99.99% purity for the reflection film is put into an evaporation source 5 of a vapor deposition device and, for example, 99.9% Ni-Cr alloy having the higher corrosion resistance and strength than the corrosion resistance and strength of Al is put into an evaporation source 6. The information recording medium 1 is set in the vapor deposition device and the inside of the device is evacuated to about 10<-5>-10<-6>Torr. The reflection film 2 and the protective coat 3 are then deposited on the recording side of the medium 1. Al for the reflection film contained in the evaporation source 5 is melted and deposited by evaporation on the medium at the 1st stage. The film thickness is 1,000-1,500Angstrom . The Ni-Cr alloy for the protective coat contained in the evaporation source 6 is melted and deposited by evaporation on the medium. Frequent generation of pinholes is obviated and the corrosion resistant effect is sufficient if the film thickness is >=500Angstrom .
