PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of the thickness of a paint film and the occurrence of cratering defects at the time of drying when a body to be painted is painted by electrodeposition and the resulting paint film is baked and dried without washing, by preheating the painted body at a temp. below the curing start temp. of the paint film. CONSTITUTION:A body 6 to be painted is sent to a painting zone 1 by a conveyor 7, transferred to a lift 9 at a transfer part 8 and immersed in a soln. 11 of electrodeposition paint in a tank 10 by the lift 9. In the tank 10, a paint film is electrodeposited on the surface of the body 6. The body 6 is then sent to a preheating furnace 4 by the conveyor 7 through a setting zone 2 and an air blowing zone 3. In the furnace 4, the remaining soln. on the body 6 is removed by drying at a temp. below the curing start temp. of the paint film. The body 6 is further sent to a drying furnace 5, where the paint film is cross- linked and cured by baking and drying at a prescribed temp. for a prescribed time.
