PURPOSE:To prevent the start delay of a lamp and eliminate the short circuit accident of a wiring and the danger of a fire by sealing one of helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and nitrogen in an outer tube at the preset pressure. CONSTITUTION:At least one of helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and nitrogen is sealed in an outer tube 4 at the pressure of 10<-3>-50 torr. Thereby, the start delay phenomenon can be prevented from occurring with a simple structure without sealing a radioactive material or using a complex lamp structure. Accordingly, a high-pressure metal vapor discharge lamp free from the short circuit accident of a wiring and the danger of a fire can be obtained.
