PURPOSE:To eliminate disturbance in long length materials, in the case where a plurality of the long length materials are simultaneously fed by a shifting device provided with a turning arm which enables the materials to be vertically shifted. CONSTITUTION:A walking beam 1 carrying long length materials 7 are moved in the horizontal direction to shift the long length materials 7 onto a turning arm 11. This operation is carried out in such a series of steps that each material is horizontally moved, then lowered to be shifted onto the turning arm 7, and is then returned into the horizontal direction. The lowering of the turning arm 7 causes the materials 7 to be shifted onto a carrier vehicle 10 which stands by below the arm 11. In this condition the arm 11 is turned by an angle of 90 deg. so that it ascends with no interference with the vehicle 10, and is again turned by 90 deg. to return its original position. When the interference with the arm 11 is eliminated, the vehicle 10 moves to its destination. |
