PURPOSE:To remove foreign matter from the glass face and reduce a defective rate by sweeping glass faces of a liquid crystal cell sealing liquid crystal between two oppositely arranged glass plates with the straight edge part of an elastic thin plate edge and sticking a polarizing plate to the sweeping face. CONSTITUTION:The display cell 5 is set up on a plane surface, a stopper X is arranged in the advancing direction of a razor's edge 8, the razor's edge 8 is inclined from the surface of the cell by about 45 deg. by holding a grip 9, and while applying press contact force to the edge 8, the edge 8 is moved to the end side on the opposite side. When a foreign matter exists on the glass surfaces of the display cell 5, it is removed to the outside of a cleaning area by the edge 8.
